Monsters of the Wild

Andrew Cawood and and his crew of creatives are back with the fourth title in the Monster series: Monsters of the Wilderness – Oswald’s Curse. While the other three titles focused on one environment, Oswald’s Curse traverses seven different biomes, each defined by unique monsters. This beautiful collection of over 100 5e monsters (more if we hit those stretch goals) is entwined with the story of Oswald Myrr, a powerful, and seemingly mad, wizard bent on revenge.

Up to 120 monsters in 7 distinct regions, adventure hooks, encounter tables, events tables, locations tables, GM advice, and more. Stretch goals include extra monsters, PC subclasses, interior cover art, and custom-made dice from Q-workshop.

 Oswald Myrr is a legendary wizard who has been banished by the Wizard Council. This crazy spellcaster has unleashed a curse on the world after opening numerous portals called ‘Riftgates’. These openings enable travel around the world and to other planes. However, many evil creatures from other worlds and strange, dark energies have come through the Riftgates. 

The book is divided into 7 wilderness regions: Ocean, Arctic, Desert, Swamp/Jungle, Forest, Hills/Lakes, and Mountains. Each region has a wizard or witch from the Wizard Council and a monstrous titan (see below). 

This book features artwork by Travis Hanson. Hanson is the creator of the Life of the Party, and Beam, tabletop RPG comic strips. Hanson has provided the artwork for the previous monster books and given the line a solid, cohesive feel.

Monsters of the City

Today we sit down with Andrew Cawood of Cawood Publishing to discuss their latest project.

As I understand it, you have a new Kickstarter launching on Tues, Jan 14. What can you tell us about Monsters of the City?
Really it’s a campaign book with 100 new monsters. Around 130 pages, full-color with illustrations for each monster. Divided into seven city districts with a legendary monster for a sin and virtue in each section. Some of the other monsters in each district will be connected to the sin or virtue as well. Adventure hooks, Encounter tables, Events and Locations tables, and each district will have a resource page for specific resources to run that part of the city. Devils, demons, celestials, fey, undead, three new humanoid races and more.

How does MotC differ from your earlier monster books?
Unique monsters you won’t find anywhere else. Strong narrative theme built-in and resources to run a campaign included. All the art is connected to the theme and style as it’s all by the same artist, Travis Hanson.

First we entered Feyland with an A-Z monster book that has some setting resources.
Underworld is more of a setting book with monsters. MOC will be similar but has a built-in narrative as well.

You must assemble and personally lead an adventuring party of 3 Canadian Prime Minsters (living or dead), go!
Ok Jean Chrétien as he’s seen everything, Pierre Trudeau to call in soldiers if we need them, and Stephen Harper to check for traps.

Interesting choices, explain.
Chrétien as he’s a wise old dude, but not much empathy. Trudeau called out the army when a violent separatist group was active. Harper…no comment

Which creature in Monsters of the City would you personally fear the most?
Feared monster? The sins are tough but the vampire lord is a handful too

Have you given any thought to possible stretch goals?
A hardcover version, Extra art like full-page illustrations of the sins and virtues, PC subclasses, Maps, Endsheets, Custom d20s from Q-Workshop

How long does the Kickstarter run?
Jan 14th to Feb 12th.

RPGenerations: Tabletop Knights

Today we talk to Andrew Cawood, the head writer at Cawood Publishing and chief architect of the World of Myrr about his latest Kickstarter.

For people who might be unaware of Cawood Publishing, what can you tell them?
We’re a small Indie RPG company based in Vancouver, Canada. As of September 2018, we have over 30 5E products for sale at the DMs Guild and on DriveThruRpg. We are currently working on more adventure modules, handbooks for Game Masters, and the other seven continent settings for the World of Myrr.

How did Cawood Publishing get involved with RPGenerations?
I was talking with Dom about his comic and he asked me if we wanted to publish a collection of his comics.

So what can you tell me about your new Kickstarter?
It’s a softcover book with at least a 100 of Domenico Neziti’s RPG comics. They’re always funny and Dom has great insight into the group dynamics at the table. There are stretch goals to turn the book into a hardcover version and to add more comics.
