Boccob’s Blessed Blog Turns Six

Today B3 turns six years old. According to a child development tracker on the PBS website that means :

  • Six-year-olds have longer attention spans and continue to prefer structured activities to more open-ended experiences.
  • They read a variety of texts for pleasure (e.g., stories, informational texts, poems) and draw upon a variety of comprehension strategies to understand and enjoy texts. (I read gaming books at an eight grade level I’ll have you know!)
  • Their vocabularies rapidly increase, and their language moves beyond communication to provide a foundation for learning, including the development of independent reading skills. (Hell yes, diadem, trebuchet, gorget, so gamers have vast lexicons)
  • Given exposure and practice, six-year-olds use a wider variety of materials to create visual images that combine colors, forms and lines (Yup, my mapping skills are tight)

Ravenloft Encounters

We can all use some help crafting quest ideas from time to time. Limitless Adventures makes a DM’s job easier by offering quality 5e content at an affordable price (seriously, .99 – 1.99!).

The newest product is Dungeon Encounters, a series of 5e encounters that can be dropped into nearly any dungeon with little to no prep. There are ten encounters, 30 Further Adventure hooks, and a new cursed item. 10 DnD encounters for a $1.99 is a great deal.

Friendly Advice for My Fellow Bloggers

Lately I have been spending a great deal of my creative efforts on writing D&D quests for Limitless-Adventures.com. The sheer amount of work involved in creating original content, proofreading it, editing it, adding art, etc., is staggering. In an effort to help get our name out there I’ve been looking for quality bloggers to review our products, but nearly every blog I encounter has no means of contacting the writer(s) posted. If your wish is to be the Thomas Pynchon of the blog o’ sphere, then continue, as is my mysterious friend. However, know that by not listing an e-mail address on your page you’re closing yourself to possible collaboration, recognition, and even addition work.

Just my two coppers

D&D Quest Ideas at Limitless-Adventures.com

Our D&D 5e content store, www.Limitless-Adventures.com just went live! We weren’t able to push all the products that we wanted, or debut all the bells and whistles of the website, but those will come with time. This entire process has been a learning curve.

What do we have to offer? Our Limitless Locations are ten random encounters for each of the ten environments used in 5e. How much do they cost? Each Limitless Location pack is $1.99. So you’ll get 10 encounters (generally seven combat, and three non combat), each of which comes with an OGL stat block, treasure (when appropriate), and three hooks for further adventures (30 total per pack). These D&D quest ideas work well to fill a random encounter table, fill the hexes of a sandbox, or just to keep handy in case your session goes somewhere unexpected or runs short.

Expedition: The Live Adventure Card Game

Recently I had the privilege of playing an advanced copy of Expedition and couldn’t be more impressed. The game’s creator, Todd Medema was kind enough to send a copy to B3 and I’m hooked. The game follows familiar fantasy game tropes that fans of Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder will find familiar.

The Highlights:

  • 1-8 players (Yes, you can play this game solo)
  • Combat is fast and easy
  • Combat is made even easier with the use of a free app
  • The app works well on smart phones and tablets
  • While the rules are simplified, the game can still be played tactically
  • The deck is available for free through the Creative Commons license
  • The game is customizable and allows you create unique cards
  • The website has an amazing Demo to give you an idea of game play (the demo is replayable)
  • The Expedition website is impressive and has been expertly crafted
  • The game’s Kickstarter campaign starts today

All in all, Expedition is a solid game. You can play it solo or with a group, as a distraction as you wait for your other players to arrive, or as an RPG system of its own. I will be excited to see what stretch goals are reached, I’d love to see a web-based game (multi-player or solo) created. I hope you’ll check out the demo and view their Kickstarter page (the campaign runs until November 9th). Expedition is, in a word…impressive.

2013 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

Madison Square Garden can seat 20,000 people for a concert. This blog was viewed about 61,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Madison Square Garden, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
